FAQs

  • Two different forms will be used, depending on age. For those over the age of 65, a Mini Nutrition Assessment is a validated and useful tool. For those under the age of 65, the Subjective Global Assessment is to be used, and is also validated and very useful.

  • During this examination, the dietitian evaluates vital signs, body composition, and physical markers that may provide insights into nutritional status. This can include examining for signs of fat/muscle wasting, presence of edema/ascites, skin condition, hair quality, and nail health.

  • A dietitian can pinpoint the underlying causes of appetite loss, whether it's due to medical conditions, medication side effects, or emotional factors. Through personalized nutritional counseling, they can devise strategies to help, such as nutrient-dense foods, smaller, more frequent meals, and creative cooking techniques to enhance flavor and appeal.

  • Due to restrictions by the regulating bodies for Dietitians in Canada, I am restricted to providing in-person services to those in Alberta.

However, I can provide virtual and phone services to anyone living in the territories, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick.

  • Dietitian services are covered by most health insurance plans or extended health benefits. Contact your service provider to see if you are eligible. Dietitian services are also tax deductible.

  • Working with a dietitian, among other health care professionals, is a lot like building a quality house: they're both about planning for the future.

When you build a strong, well-made house, you make sure it's safe and comfortable to live in. Similarly, when you invest in a dietitian, you're taking steps to stay healthy and catch any problems early, so you can enjoy a better and longer life.

In both cases, spending some time and money now can save you a lot of trouble and expenses later on, making your future more secure and enjoyable.
